2017 1/10 oz $5 American Gold Eagle

American Eagles use the durable 22 karat standard established for gold circulating coinage over 350 years ago. They contain their stated amount of pure gold, plus small amounts of alloy. This creates harder coins that resist scratching and marring, which can diminish resale value.

Minted to exacting standards, the obverse design is inspired by what’s often considered one of America’s most beautiful coins: Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ celebrated $20 gold piece, minted from 1907-1933. The reverse design, by sculptor Miley Busiek, features a male eagle carrying an olive branch flying above a nest containing a female eagle and her hatchlings.

Since 1995, International Precious Metals has grown to become one of the largest and most recognized nationwide dealers of U.S. Mint coins, and a leader in rare historic U.S. Gold and Silver. The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (or NGC) is a multinational coin grading service provider based in Sarasota, Fla.

NGC is the world’s largest third-party coin grading service.
