The primary objective of Apollo 11 was to complete a national goal set by President John F. Kennedy on May 25, 1961: perform a crewed lunar landing and return safely to Earth. Only eight years later, Apollo 11 launched from Cape Kennedy on July 16, 1969, carrying Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin.  Four days later, on July 20, 1969, the brave astronauts arrived at their destination. Collins piloted the command module Columbia alone in lunar orbit while Armstrong and Aldrin made preparations onboard the Apollo Lunar Model, the “Eagle,” to land on the moon.

Months before the successful mission, President Richard Nixon set an international tone for the Apollo program in his inaugural address: “As we explore the reaches of space, let us go to the new worlds together -- not as new worlds to be conquered, but as a new adventure to be shared.” This inspired an idea within NASA to have astronauts plant a United Nations flag upon the first landing. The top brass at NASA was surveyed, and the overwhelming consensus was to plant an American flag. The American public wholeheartedly supported the idea. In November of 1969, four months after the Apollo 11 landing, the United States Congress passed a bill which was signed into law by President Nixon stating, “The flag of the United States, and no other flag, shall be implanted or otherwise placed on the surface of the moon, or on the surface of any planet, by members of the crew of any spacecraft ...as part of any mission...” This act was intended as a symbolic gesture of national pride. American flags were planted on each Apollo mission that landed on the Moon.

The Apollo 11 50th Anniversary “The Eagle Has Landed” Commemorative Proof Collection includes:

One stunning NASA approved “The Eagle Has Landed” 24 Karat .9999 Fine Gold Commemorative Ultra Cameo Proof in Perfect 70 grade by NGC; Hand-signed NGC label by Joel Iskowitz.

The Obverse:

With a soaring American Eagle, the Proof’s obverse pays homage to the 50th Anniversary of the moon landing in 2019. The beautiful design echoes the Apollo 11 mission patch worn by the brave astronauts of the daring mission.  The Ultra Cameo Proof is also inscribed with the words, "Half Ounce" and proudly displays its ".9999 GOLD" purity.

The Reverse:

The lunar module that brought the first astronauts to the surface was nicknamed the “Eagle”, and Neil Armstrong's message to Mission Control on July 20, 1969, captured its safe touchdown perfectly: "The Eagle has landed.”  The reverse also shows a boot print in the moon's thick dust, with the United States visible on Earth at the lunar horizon.  It represents the enormity of the accomplishment that was made possible in just a few short years by the scientists and engineers at NASA.  An astronaut saluting the American flag pays tribute to the nation that had the vision and determination to carry out such a daring feat on behalf of all mankind.

One official reproduction of NASA's original Apollo 11 Mission Patch designed by Command Module Pilot, Michael Collins, to be a symbol that represents a “peaceful lunar landing by the United States”.

Following the tradition set by the crew of Gemini V, the Apollo 11 crew was given the task of designing its mission patch. Apollo 11 was and still is, one of the most publicly recognized missions NASA has ever had. The eyes of the world were on Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins, making the Apollo 11 patch not only a symbol for the mission, but also a representation of the intentions of America, the hopes of NASA, and the astronauts themselves. The Apollo 11 mission insignia patch was designed by Michael Collins, who wanted a symbol for “peaceful lunar landing by the United States”. He chose an eagle as the symbol, put an olive branch in its beak, and drew a lunar background with the Earth in the distance. NASA officials said the talons of the eagle looked too “warlike” and after some discussion, the olive branch was moved to the claws. The crew decided the Roman numeral XI would not be understood in some nations and went with “Apollo 11”; they decided not to put their names on the patch so it would “be representative of everyone who had worked toward a lunar landing”.

One "New Frontier" Bronze Medal - a duplicate of the New Frontier Congressional Gold Medal designed by Joel Iskowitz and awarded to NASA astronauts John Herschel Glenn Jr., Neil A. Armstrong, Edwin E. “Buzz” Aldrin Jr., and Michael Collins in recognition of their significant contributions to society.

This is a 1.5-inch bronze duplicate of the New Frontier Congressional Gold Medal awarded to the astronauts of Apollo 11 at a ceremony in the U.S. Capitol Building on November 16, 2011, in recognition of their significant contributions to society. The obverse depicts the portraits of Apollo 11 astronauts Neil A. Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin E. “Buzz” Aldrin Jr.facing left; and Friendship 7 astronaut John Herschel Glenn Jr.facing right, representing the two historic missions. The design also features a partial view of the earth from orbit, as well as a horizon line with an astronaut walking on the lunar surface facing the flag. The names of all four astronauts are inscribed along the outer rim. The reverse features the Lunar Excursion Module orbiting the moon and the Friendship 7 mission capsule orbiting the earth with the inscription “WE CAME IN PEACE FOR ALL MANKIND.” At the unveiling event, late United States Senator and former NASA astronaut, Hon. John Glenn was quoted as he paid homage to Joel Iskowitz’s design talents: “The artwork of Joel Iskowitz is of national historic significance.” When creating the New Frontier Congressional Gold Medal, Joel Iskowitz considered every detail. To capture the Lunar Excursion Module accurately, Iskowitz exhaustively examined images from John Glenn’s mission notes to correctly capture the direction of its orbit and orientation. The medal received recognition from the International Design Awards.

One Mint Condition “First Man on the Moon” 1969 10-Cent Stamp designed by Paul Calle to commemorate man’s first footstep on the moon.

Designed by Paul Calle, the 1969 Moon Landing 10-cent postage stamp commemorates man’s first footstep on the moon’s surface by Neil Armstrong, commander of the Apollo 11 mission. This “First Man on the Moon” issue was the first jumbo-sized American commemorative. The engraved master die accompanied the astronauts all the way to the moon’s surface, and an envelope bearing a proof of the stamp was also in the space module. Lithographed and engraved, the stamp was printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.
