“Speak softly and carry a big stick.” Those famous words, uttered by the great Theodore Roosevelt, speak well of the era he ushered in as President of the United States.
He assumed the Presidency in September of 1901, after the assassination of William McKinley, and re-assumed his position after defeating Alton Parker at the polls in December of 1904 - the very date of this coin.
Proof Gold of this era is heavily sought after, and the Eagle was struck to the tune of a mere 108 pieces. Today, many of those lie at the lower end of the grading spectrum - as few could be saved from trials of history that would ensue.
This is a beautiful, untouched and original 1904 Eagle with sensational Cameo contrast and a razor-sharp strike. A tough date to find, much less own. This coin is destined for a home filled with extraordinary coins.
