$2.5 Indian Head 1908-1929 |
|
Like the $5 coin that shares this coin’s unique, sunken design, this Bela Lyon Pratt design was unprecedented in American coinage. The Eagle design is inspired from one first used by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens (who was responsible for the contemporary $10 and $20 issues), which was in turn inspired by depictions of eagles in coins from the ancient world.
